The Pleyel number 35876 bears the signature of the great composer Gioacchino Rossini on the left edge of the wrest plank. An heir of Rossini\u2019s donated the instrument to the foundation in Pesaro entitled to the composer, thus allowing the piano\u2019s history to emerge. Indeed, the Maestro gave this instrument to his physician\u2019s wife, a singer with whom Rossini performed during his stay in Paris. An example of the Second Empire style, the very elegant case is laminated in ebonized pearwood with brass-wire inserts. The restoration has been lengthy and complex, but it brought the piano back to perfect functionality. The instrument is now in Pesaro, in the Hall of Mirrors on the main floor of Palazzo Montani-Antaldi, home to the new museum centre devoted to the great composer.<\/span><\/p>\n
