J. B\u00f6hm was among the most prolific makers of the Viennese school. To date, a few dozen instruments of his have been documented. They mostly have the typically Biedermeier double bent side case. The present instrument is one of his most elegant exemplars due to its sophisticated gilded bronze decoration. Above the name plate, Apollo stands between two winged victories playing long trumpets. On both sides, a lyre \u2013 the god\u2019s musical attribute \u2013 and bronze griffins, the guardians of Apollo\u2019s treasure. The five pedals and a carved, lacquered, and gilded wooden griffin are on the stretcher between the front legs.<\/span><\/p>\n
