Philip Jacob Specken was a pupil of Gottfried Silbermann, the famous German organ maker. Upon the end of his apprenticeship, he moved to Sweden. He opened his workshop in Stockholm, fostering and teaching a thriving harpsichord-making group of pupils, many of which are well-known. His instruments are built “in the German style”, with very robust and heavy cases that nevertheless have a great, deep sound.
Our copies are inspired by the original in the Museum of Musical Instruments in Stockholm.
